What is a hypnotic trance?

A significant portion of any effective hypnotism involves being in a form of trance or hypnosis trance. This kind of trance becomes even more important when hypnotism is used as a therapeutic alternative especially when used in autohypnosis or autosuggestion. It’s important to the point that most therapeutic applications of hypnotism are nestled in the success of how deep or how shallow the hypnosis trance is. Understanding it is therefore doubly important as it may spell the success rate of any hypnotherapy session.

In essence, a hypnosis trance can be defined simply as a form of sleep albeit a deeper state of sleep than is normally experienced. Being in a trance simply means that you are somewhere between being totally conscious or awake to being totally asleep and unconscious. Surprisingly enough, being in a state of trance is actually an everyday occurrence with us because the closest, the most obvious description of a person in a trance is like someone who is daydreaming.

The only difference between a daydream and a hypnotic trance is that a person that is in this form of trance is more easily influenced and ready to accept suggestions made to them. This deeper stage of being asleep is also a much more relaxing sleep than what you normally receive. A person that is placed into a hypnotic trance for a short period will awaken feeling more refreshed than a full night of eight-hours of sleep. This makes entering a hypnotic trance even more rewarding.

The risky of entering into a hypnotic trance is that if you have a hypnotist that you are not comfortable with or haven’t built a trusting report you will not get the results you are seeking. However the positive side is that entering it with a trained therapist or someone whom you can trust can bring a lot of results that may have very positive impacts to your life.

So what are the ways that you can induce a hypnosis trance? There are varying techniques and their efficacy are different from one person to another. The most common one is induced through progressive relaxation and is most commonly used in psychotherapy and the medical community. As the name suggest, it simply involves being able to calm yourself and progressively relax to eventually enter into a deep relaxing sleep.

Among the more classic methods of achieving a hypnosis trance involves the use of hypnosis spiral that is a constantly moving spiral you see in the movies or on television. It’s easily available everywhere and you can even download some online. Another classic is a bright object such as a piece of jewelry used as a pendulum. There are of course, other methods such as using NLP, EFT, Ericksonian therapy, TFT but these usually involve a trained hypnotherapist.

It’s a matter of personality and tolerance to hypnotic suggestion at this point and of course, personal preference. All in all, being in a hypnosis trance totally depends on the person and his or her willingness to enter into the trance as no one can be forced to be hypnotized. In the long run, it’s a matter of deciding whether entering a trance can help you achieve your goals.
